Lauren Gold named PSAC Eastern Division Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week

Lauren Gold of the Shippensburg University women’s basketball team was named the PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Week by the conference office after averaging 11.7 points and 6.0 assists in a three-game span.

Despite just one start in those three games, Gold was integral to SU’s success as the Raiders went 2-1, including a victory over 2013 NCAA Tournament qualifier NYIT.

Her success this past week came through her passing and dribble penetration, as she handed out 18 assists to just six turnovers and made 23-of-25 at the free-throw line.

Gold’s first start came Saturday, as she played 33 minutes vs. NYIT. Gold scored 17 points on 4-of-12 shooting but was 9-of-9 at the free-throw line and dished out 11 assists for a double-double. Her performance marked the most assists by an SU player in one game since Feb. 24, 2010. She also had six rebounds and a steal.

In 27 minutes off the bench vs. Goldey-Beacom, Gold scored eight points (6-of-6 at FT line), had four assists and one steal. She was named to the 2013 Wolf’s Bus Lines Classic All-Tournament Team for her play in the games against NYIT and GBC.
